Located within Waiwhetu, Lower Hutt, this project was collaboratively executed with the client and acts as a successful example of sensitive residential densification. The client was looking to create 24 townhouse units on this well situated site, which previously housed two standalone dwellings.
The new dwellings bring together varying qualities of expression and color. Plaster-render, fiber cement, profiled metal, and timber were selected for durability and architectural interest.
The interior takes on a contemporary and timeless feel, with a balanced palette encompassing neutral tones. Large glazing extents and sliding doors allow the living spaces to extend into the landscape, giving the users a strong connection with the associated outdoor living spaces.
The project’s skillful combination of compact living and contemporary architecture creates a striking yet simple aesthetic that has subtle variance across the 24 dwellings; expressed through 6 unique block types.
